Have you started doing web video production? If you have a business with a website, start immediately. Video will increase traffic to your website and improve your conversions. Get on it!
In this day and age it is easier for just about anyone to connect with more people, more immediately, on a personal level than it ever has been in human history. No matter what your interests are, you can video in some form to indulge those interests. It could be on the internet, on television, at the movie theater, on your smart phone, etc. Video is just everywhere, and people are coming to expect video in just about every transaction they make in a given day.
Interestingly, when we talk about video we are also talking about audio, though we may not immediately think of it that way. But the most effective videos are the ones with audio right along with it, whether it be someone talking, music, or the sounds that naturally go along with whatever was being filmed, video just isn’t as powerful without the audio that goes along with it. And that is one reason why video is so powerful a way to communicate a message, an emotion, or to influence people. Sight and sound are the two most powerful senses humans have for taking in information, and video hits them both.
If we want someone to remember something, the best chance we have is to engage them on both a visual and auditory level. When you understand that, it becomes kind of a no-brainer that if we haven’t done so already, we need to start utilizing web videos as a marketing tool…perhaps as THE marketing tool. If you do not already produce web videos, you could already be behind.
So why is it that web video has become so vital so recently? It’s down to the fact that until very recently, video was not easy to share. Internet connections speeds were not fast enough for the average person. Digitizing video to view on a computer was clunky, yielding low-resolutions and large file sizes. But just within the past 4 or 5 years (this is being written in 2011), high definition video is available in consumer video recorders. High-speed internet is the norm, not only at home, but also across cell phone networks and into our smart phones and tablets. Video software is cheaper and more powerful than ever, and video sharing sites like You Tube make it easier than ever for regular people to create professional web video.
So why does it seem that businesses, small or large, aren’t using web video for marketing purposes? It may just be that technology is moving forward faster than many business owners can keep up with. But one thing is for sure, there is no more immediate, effective, or intimate way to connect with your audience and get your message out than with video. And with so many businesses NOT taking advantage of this, you can likely gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace by making web video part of your marketing strategy.
Technology moves pretty fast. It’s hard to see what the future of video will be. But just at the moment it offers small businesses a way to compete with the “big boys and girls” who may not have jumped on the video train yet. It isn’t expensive any more and it isn’t very hard. So what are you waiting for. Start putting out web video as soon as possible and watch your business grow.
